Why Strength Matters

So why are we so big on being strong?

Persistent back pain is rarely about structural damage. Often two key components are reduced load tolerance and deconditioning - or weakness for short. The body has done less over time, normal tasks start to feel harder, and activity drops further as a result. The programme addresses this directly. Five weeks of progressive strength work covering lower body, trunk endurance, and bending and lifting confidence, followed by a consolidation week. Every session builds on the previous one. We track strength gains alongside symptom scores. Feeling better matters, but becoming more capable in daily life is what it’s all about.

How This Differs from a Standard Course of Care

The programme is structured around progressive exercise, performance tracking, and consistent attendance over six weeks. Patients are expected to put work in between sessions, not just during them. What changes long-term outcomes is what happens outside the clinic. The programme is built around that from day one. Alongside strength training, participants receive education on pain, load management, and how to handle flare-ups so they're equipped to manage their own back health going forward.

What We're Improving

Based on participant feedback, we're adding a baseline balance assessment to give us more data to track improvement against. This will be incorporated into the next cohort.

The Bigger Picture

We’ve designed this programme as a springboard: six weeks is a starting point, not an endpoint. Our expertise in pacing the progression helps patients move through those first few weeks of exercise therapy with confidence, until their conditioning gives them confidence to push on by themselves - or with a bit more help from us if they need it. The transition from feeling limited to feeling capable is where long-term change starts.

If you’d like to experience these results for yourself, book or get in touch today to start building a stronger, more resilient back.
