Footscan Gait Analysis with Custom Phits Insoles

We've launched a dedicated footscan service that creates 3D-printed custom insoles. Here's everything you need to know about this industry-leading technology.

At Pyramid Health, we're always looking for better ways to understand and treat our patients' problems. That's why we've invested in the latest Footscan® dynamic gait analysis technology that works with custom Phits 3D-printed insole systems.

We're offering this as a standalone service, so you don't need to book a full consultation to access this technology. Whether you're an existing patient or new to our clinic, you can book directly for a comprehensive gait assessment.

What Makes Footscan® Different?

Traditional foot assessments rely heavily on visual observation and clinical experience. Both are valuable, but they have limitations. Our Footscan® system has over 8,000 high-speed sensors that accurately capture and analyse your movement, providing detailed plantar pressure information that simply cannot be seen with a treadmill or the human eye.

The technology measures plantar pressure distribution, showing exactly where forces are concentrated. It identifies peak pressure points where excessive stress leads to pain. It reveals force directions and timing, showing how your foot moves through each step of your gait cycle. This information can be slowed down to help identify even the smallest asymmetries or abnormalities in your movement.

When we combine these measurements with our clinical assessment of your movement patterns and muscle function, we can pinpoint exactly what's causing your symptoms.

The Phits 3D Printing Process

Here's where the technology gets really impressive. Your footscan data feeds directly into Phits' advanced 3D printing system, creating insoles that are truly unique to your feet.

Following our Footscan® analysis, Phits insoles are designed from your real-time dynamic data to restore biomechanical imbalances in your lower limbs and provide tailored support and cushioning where you need it most. The process determines the density, firmness, and support zones throughout each insole based on your individual pressure patterns.

A range of custom-printed Phits insoles

The insoles are then 3D-printed using medical-grade materials in precise layers. Every millimeter is calculated based on your individual gait pattern. We even have sport-specific designs for running, football, golf, cycling and skiing.

Unlike traditional orthotics that are carved from blocks of material, these insoles can have internal structures and varying densities that would be impossible to create any other way. Accurately translating your movement into a bespoke insole is a totally unique process and only made possible using advanced 3D-printing capabilities.

Whether you are aiming for an Olympic podium or just want to complete your daily activities, it's important to perform in the most optimal conditions with every step you take.

What to Expect During Your Assessment

Your standalone gait analysis appointment is dedicated entirely to understanding your foot function.

An assessment begins with a static scan to look at your posture and weight distribution when standing. If necessary, the system also allows us to monitor your balance and movement efficiency during specific tasks such as squatting and jumping.

We then complete a dynamic gait analysis to assess how you walk across the system. For active individuals and runners, we can also provide a running assessment. Footscan® provides a range of visual analysis screens that we'll discuss with you.

The entire assessment takes about 45-60 minutes. You'll leave with a clear understanding of what's happening biomechanically and a targeted plan to address it.

Common Questions About the Service

How much does the service cost? A specialist footscan appointment starts from £80. Phits 3D printed insoles have a starting price of £300 for standard insoles and £350 for sports-specific insoles.

How long do the custom insoles take to arrive? Phits insoles are typically ready within 2-3 weeks from when we send your specifications.

How long do they last? Most patients get 12-18 months of regular use from their insoles, depending on activity levels and body weight.

Can I use them in different shoes? Yes, they're designed to transfer between similar shoe types. We'll discuss the best shoe styles to pair with your insoles.

What if they don't feel right initially? There's usually a 1-2 week adjustment period. We include a follow-up appointment to check how you're getting on and make any necessary modifications.

Do I need a referral? No, you can book directly for this service. All patients can refer themselves - there is no need to get a GP or consultant referral.

Why Footscan®?

We see patients every day whose foot problems affect their entire quality of life. From the runner who's had to reduce their mileage due to persistent pain, to the teacher whose feet ache every evening.

Footscan® is the most precise technology on the market and incorporates a hand-in-glove insole design process with Phits. The 3D printing process and the use of dynamic gait analysis eliminates a lot of the guesswork used in more traditional insole design. And if it’s good enough for elite athletes, then it’s what we want for our patients!
